The first single from their upcoming sophomore record, Free Pizza’s “Dancing” takes the band’s obvious rock and roll fandom and songwriting prowess to a new level. Collaborators since high school, Jesus Vio and Santiago Cardenas have recently added Roy MacMurdo to their line-up and moved to Nashville. The too-cool-for-school trio attends a dance-happy house party during the music video for the track, which is rich in thumping bass backbone and tight yet jangly guitar support in the vein of The Growlers.
“Dancing” is upbeat, odd post-punk for pop lovers. The song’s hooky construction and crisp drums offer provocative juxtaposition to the dark, bored edge of its vocals. With clean-cut melodicism and dry wit, Free Pizza is making off-kilter, hip-shaking sounds for the beatnik set.
The new album from Free Pizza, Berlin, DE, will be out June 17th on BUFU Records.
