It’s not always easy to say how you feel, especially in a world derailed by a pandemic. The Los Angeles-by-way-of Austin band Mamalarky encapsulates the frustration from when you can’t break through those barriers of communication with the rawness of a song recorded with only one take.
Mamalarky is taking this time we all have on our hands to ponder if we will ever truly know if love is symmetrical. Their new single, “How to Say”, explores that vulnerability and ambiguity of expressing love.
These sentiments are not just heard in the lyrics but manifested in the raw nature of using singular takes. The guitar melodies are groovy yet pleasantly wonky while the vocals are unique and protean.
When SXSW was cancelled, Mamalarky went to work recording this new single as a taste of an album in the works. You can listen along with its corresponding video below and look for more from them here.
