The Porchistas

When last we heard from the genre-hopping, Montclair-based group The Porchistas they had just put out the Shoot It At The Sun LP. Our review of that album published right before the close of 2014 and woo boy has shit changed since then.

Unless you have just returned from the far reaches of Space, you’ve undoubtedly awoken to the unfortunate Orange dawn that, somehow, continues to burn hotter on an hour to hour basis. Well, The Porchistas are having none of it and, not unlike Damon Albarn and his vision for the new Gorillaz album, have chosen to resist by inciting dance parties at the edge of the world.

Leading the band’s Axis & Allies EP, “Mr. Chump” doesn’t pull any punches in telling #45 where and when to shove it, backed by undeniable grooves and a tight funk sound reminiscent of some of Frank Zappa’s most biting critiques. The video only further hammers all of this home.

Watch The Porchistas in “Mr. Chump” below and look for Axis & Allies out soon.
