Kid Is Qual has connections to the recently defunct cult favorite Ween. Jon “Dr. J” Sullivan (formerly of Jack’s Mannequin) and company played support in 2011 for Dean, Gene, and the crew’s three New Years Eve shows at The Fillmore in Denver, not to mention Qual’s constant performance’s at the Ween-associated venue John & Peter’s in New Hope, PA. And the bridge has been further fortified with the bass-laden Dance-Punk trio’s recent addition of former Ween stick wielder Claude Coleman.
SIMGE had heard rumblings about such a collaboration, but a photo that surfaced today via KIQ’s Facebook account with the caption “Peeps out Claude Coleman of Ween laying the drums down in our session last week for Schoolly D’s “guccitime2013″…Look for our release of A.O.T.Y in Feb 2013,” pretty much confirms our assumptions…as well as a new release coming soon.
Also coming in February is the return of Kid Is Qual to Asbury Park. The band is slated to support Brick+Mortar on February 16th alongside legendary Hip-Hop purveyor Schooly D. Doors for the all-ages event open at 7:30 p.m. with a cover charge of $10. Grab tickets and RSVP to the event here.
