Biff Swenson

Biff Swenson’s (toilet. & Spa Day) Top Ten Albums of 2014.
(In no particular order)

* Weezer – Everything Will Be Alright In The End (DUH!)
This album is as close to Blue as we are going to get. 2014 was Weezer’s comeback! EWBAITE is the perfect blend of Maladroit’s grit, Blue’s familiarity, and Pinkerton’s willingness to be uncomfortably open. Mad respect =w=

* Real Estate – Atlas
Atlas is the kind of album you can put on during a road trip, and you will fall in love with wherever you are, and whoever you’re with. Real Estate give me the feels.

* Spoon – They Want My Soul
They aren’t reinventing the wheel with this one, and I’m so happy about that. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Britt knows what the people want from him, and he has made a career out of delivering.

* Mac DeMarco – Salad Days
Mac makes my head spin. The warble of his tunes sound like a vinyl you found in the debris of a fire. I’m always happy when slackers have a main-stream break-through!

* King Tuff – Black Moon Spell
This album makes my balls rattle. These dudes fuckin’ rock — bottom line.

* Bombay Bicycle Club – So Long, See You Tomorrow
BBC perfectly meld great melodies, flamboyant guitars, and over-produced recordings. These tracks make your day pass by with ease.

* Ryan Adams – S/T
I’ve never been too much of a Ryan Adams fan, but this album finally did it for me. Fuck Bruce, we have Ryan Adams.

* Tweedy – Sukierae
Even if you feel a lull in this twenty song album, take a moment to step back to remember that this is a father and his son. I wish my dad played music! It has everything you would expect to hear from Jeff, but with a simple touch and fresh approach.

* Braid – No Coast
Out of all the bands who decided to reunite to cash in on the “emo revival” (that has been happening for nearly a decade, you late-to-the-party mother fuckers), Braid is the only one who actually should have made another album. I might get some flack for this, but I think this is my favorite Braid album.

* TV On The Radio – Seeds
TVOTR is a band I want to love more than I do. I get what they’re going for, but sometimes I just can’t connect with it all. This album finally accomplished the laundry list of needs that I had for them.

Honorable mentions:

* Foo Fighters – Sonic Highways (Fuck you if you don’t agree. Dave is God!)

* Owls – Two (Should have stayed broken up though)

* The Rentals – Welcome to Alphaville (Weezer will always be better, sorry Matt)

*****Come see me play bass for Gay Guy/Straight Guy on New Year’s Eve at The Wonder Bar! We are performing an entire set of Nirvana songs. The Creeptones are doing Rage Against The Machine. The Vansaders are doing Rancid. Someone is doing Sublime, and I think another band is doing Green Day. It’ll be a night of 90s to bring in the new year*****
