Mas Ysa, the creative moniker of Canadian musician, composer and visual artist Thomas Arsenault, has enjoyed some early success backed by the Worth EP. With support slots for Deerhunter and Purity Ring and remixes of his music turned in by Gang Gang Dance and Delorean already in his rear view, there’s been considerable anticipation and promise attached to his eventual debut LP.

The wait will soon be over as Mas Ysa now shares that Seraph is due out July 24 on Downtown Records with lead single “Margarita” attached to the announcement. Crafted in Arsenault’s home studio, Seraph received additional production help from Steve Rivette (Liars, Black Dice) and was mixed by grammy-nominated Damian Taylor (Bjork, Arcade Fire).

The emotionally charged “Margarita” is rounded out by warm, clanging bell sounds with M83 style horns as Arsenault stretches the limits of his register in an ode to a very special person.

“This is named for my mom, who’s also on the cover art of everything I do. It deals with the trauma of becoming your own autonomous person and that person when you see your parent as a fallible person. It’s a complicated thank you.”
