A couple of months back, we featured “Tracy” off of Pittsburgh-based group The Zells’ EP, Failure to Slide, released last fall. And wouldn’t you know it, the quintet is right back at it with the No More Heroes short player officially on the way. Speak Into My Good Eye is happy to be hosting the exclusive premiere of single “Hello Loser” today.
With “Hello Loser,” The Zells offer a guitar-driven slice of modern catharsis on an amber-hued, lo-fi garage-rock wave. I can’t listen to it without picturing seeing heads bopping or people jumping around at a venerable venue, basement, or DIY spot coming to a spot near you soon.
The band’s Phil Kenbok details, “Like most songs I write, it’s about the alienation of being an adult in the workforce, not really having it all together which fucks up relationships. And then, of course, it’s about being radically pissed off at current mode of production. In hopes that, by concentrating all of your anger and frustration into a political force and aiming it at the enemy, you might somehow feel better.”
Roman Benty adds, “That song is righteous and true.”
